An often inaccurate and unhelpful form of astrology.
There are many reasons why you might not resonate with your zodiac sign, AKA the Sun sign in astrology- the sign that the sun was located in at your time of birth.
But, here’s a big reason that I cannot stress enough.
Pop Astrology
You don’t resonate with your zodiac sign because you’ve only read or heard the basic internet pop astrology characteristics of that sign. These descriptions focus on using the signs to describe vague personality traits.
Example: You’re a Virgo, which means you are shy, humble, neat, and organized.
This kind of astrology sometimes works to describe someone accurately, but not all the time because — duh (obviously, there are plenty of Virgos out there who are messy, unorganized, extroverted, and overly prideful.)
On another note, was that sentence helpful in any way? Not really...
But this is unfortunately the kind of descriptions that come to many people’s minds when they think of astrology and zodiac signs. Ancient astrologers who observed the pathway of the planets through the sky never intended for astrology to be used in this way.
Your zodiac sign is not meant to be the end-all, be-all description of who you are. It’s also not meant to be so stagnant (i.e. you are like this all the time.) Finally, your Sun sign doesn’t even accurately describe all the different facets of your life and psyche. However, it does describe a core component of your ego, identity, soul purpose, and the traits that you need to develop to feel happy and fulfilled.
In-Depth Comprehension of Your Sign’s Essence
Back to our Virgo example: The true purpose of this energy is to purify, focus on details, and break things down into their component parts so that they can be analyzed, improved, more efficient, and better serve our needs and the needs of others.
So a better description of Virgo than shy, neat, humble, and organized would be: You’re a Virgo which means you are on a journey to analyze, discern, and improve.
That sentence is definitely not as fun or clickbaity, but if I were to sit down and have a conversation with an actual Virgo human being, I would have a much better jumping-off point for us to have a meaningful conversation that is not only actually helpful but way more accurate.
Learning about our zodiac sign is more constructive and useful when we consider it a hero’s journey. On said journey, we are meeting challenges that help us to develop certain characteristics so that we can individuate, be happy, and fulfill our purpose.
For the sake of simplicity, I’m forgoing the mention here of other astrological chart factors that need to be taken into account when interpreting someone’s complex personal astrology.
But, I hope you can already see the difference between basic pop astrology and the true understanding of each zodiac sign’s core essence and energy.
Let’s take a look at another example:
If you are a Libra, you will probably read that you are indecisive, fair, charming, creative, and peaceful.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve met plenty of Libras who don’t fit into those categories at all.
And again — not helpful!
Libra is ruled in astrology by Venus- the well-known planet of love, beauty, and harmony. (Okay, so we get where those descriptions are coming from.)
A better description that will automatically be more inclusive and accurate would be:
Libras are learning to embody the Venusian principles of diplomacy and connection with others. By thoroughly considering opposing viewpoints and differing options, the energy of Libra seeks mutual ground and understanding and strives to make well-informed decisions.
So now, instead of thinking that all Libras love peace and hate conflict, you understand that their internal compass is a set of scales, and the highest expression of Libra energy involves using those scales to the best of their ability. (Way more helpful description if you ask me.)
Of course, another factor to take into account is that each zodiac sign has its highest most positive expressions and its lowest most negative or shadow expressions. But that will be a conversation for another post.
