The Spring Signs of the Zodiac

Shifts in the cosmos, shifts in nature, shifts in the collective...

This post is all about the zodiac signs of the spring season: Aries, Taurus, and Gemini! 🌱🌼

It's both a fun and reflective learning tool to think about what we can learn from the energy of these zodiac signs and how that relates to the collective energy of the spring season in the northern hemisphere. (You can apply this technique to all of the seasons and signs of course!) The characteristics of these zodiac signs reflect qualities that are somewhat present in all of us during the spring season and present within nature itself.

This marks the start of spring and typically lands on March 20th or March 21st each year (although sometimes it can happen earlier, like the 19th, or later, like the 22nd). On this day, the Earth's axis is tilted in such a way that both hemispheres receive roughly equal amounts of light. If the winter solstice represents the beginning of the Sun's yearly cycle (similar to a New Moon), then we can also liken the vernal equinox to the next major phase of the lunar cycle (the waxing 1st Quarter Moon). The energy of the Vernal Equinox and the 1st new moon of the astrological year (in the sign of Aries) is a time that is energetically ripe for action, activity, and springing forward. (See what I did there?)

Of course, we'll start below with Aries because, as a cardinal sign, Aries begins the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere with the Spring Equinox! Every day from this point on, the daylight lasts longer and longer until we reach the peak of this daylight with the summer solstice. This dynamic motion of the Sun during the solstices & equinoxes reflects the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) dynamic personalities, and instincts for action-taking.

Meanwhile, it is during the middle of each season that temperatures, weather, and air quality become more stable and predictable. This reflects the core nature of our fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) who have a tendency towards maintaining, finishing, perfecting, and being resistant to change.

During the final month of each season, weather, temperatures, and air quality begin to transition into the next season while still retaining some qualities of whatever the current season is. This reflects the vibe of our mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) who can leave us with a certain idea, thought, or feeling on a Monday, only to completely shift gears by the next time we see them on Wednesday.

The 3 Modalities in Astrology
The zodiac signs can be split into 3 groups known as modalities. Signs of the same modality share similar behavioral characteristics.

But without further ado, let's jump into the energy of each of our springtime signs!
